Westcott Planter
Details
You asked, we answered! The Westcott planter was designed by the team here at The Sill in response to customer requests. This earthenware planter features a modern, rounded silhouette (similar to our soon-to-be retired Grant planter), and features a drainage hole and matching saucer.
The Sill's planters are all named after things closely related to the plant world. The Westcott is named in honor of Dr. Cynthia Westcott (1903–1983), an American plant pathologist, author, and horticulturist known for her work diagnosing and developing treatment for diseases in ornamental plants, a skill that earned her the nickname the "Plant Doctor." Like a medical doctor, Dr. Westcott, who earned her PhD at Cornell University in 1932, made house calls around New Jersey and New York, helping her clients manage pest and disease issues in their gardens. Read more about Dr. Westcott in this New Yorker profile from 1952, "Physician in the Flowerbeds."
