Ficus plants are tricky yet rewarding plants to grow. They can be temperamental but, in preferable conditions, will reward you with beautiful broad leaves. Add to that the Ficus Elastica Ruby’s striking variegation, and you’ve got a plant every collection needs. Sized to ship best, our large rubber tree arrives with room to grow as it adapts to your home’s conditions.

  • Each plant is unique; size and shape fluctuate by season so all measurements are shown as a range
  • Large plant measures between 22–28" tall from the soil line to the top of the foliage
  • Arrives in 10" diameter grow pot
  • Large plants benefit from brighter light to help retain their mature foliage
  • Large plants require less frequent waterings due to their higher volume of soil
  • If you purchase a large plant with a planter, the planter will ship separately

Plant Bio

The Ficus Elastica ‘Ruby’ is a cultivar of the rubber fig that boasts unusual, tricolored watercolor-esque leaves. A healthy Ruby will showcase variegation in not only a dark green (sometimes almost black) shade, but also cream and a pink or coral shade. These pink edges of the leaves are not able to photosynthesize, so the Ruby requires higher-than-usual light levels to ensure it stays well fed; however, since it is also sensitive to direct light, it is actually best to place your Ruby behind a sheer curtain or somewhere the sunlight will not be too powerful. Humidity is less of a concern than lighting levels when caring for the Ruby, as the plant has thick, rubbery leaves. Watering it weekly and occasionally misting the foliage will be sufficient to keep your plant hydrated, ideally letting the planter drip dry before returning it to a saucer or cover pot. Be careful not to splash any of the foliage when watering, as this may lead to staining. Properly cared for, an indoor Ruby plant can grow into an upright tree.
